Tab Notes keeps your notes in your browser. There is no Tab Notes account, and no server of ours receives or stores your notes.
Your notes and their formatting, the addresses of the pages they belong to, page titles, tags, collections, highlights, to-dos, reminders, pinned notes, snapshots and backups, Trash, and anything you search for. They are stored in your browser's own extension storage on this computer. Tab Notes' settings, such as the theme, are stored in Chrome's sync storage. Chrome copies them to your other computers if you use Chrome Sync. They never include note text, addresses or tags.
To decide what to improve, Tab Notes sends small usage counts to PostHog, a product analytics service. Examples: "the popup was opened", "a note was saved", "a reminder was set".

It never contains your notes, page addresses, page titles, tags, collection names, highlights, reminders or search words. The full browser user-agent string isn't sent either.
Like any request on the internet, these counts reach PostHog from your IP address. Tab Notes asks PostHog not to work out your location from it.
To turn usage counts off: open Settings › Privacy and switch off "Share usage counts". It takes effect at once, and nothing more is sent. Settings › Privacy also has "See exactly what's sent", which lists every event and field.
We don't sell data, don't show ads, and don't share data with anyone other than PostHog, which processes the counts for us.
If a note contains an image from a website, for example after you paste part of a web page, the image loads from that website when the note is shown. These requests don't tell the website which page or note asked for the image. To stop them, turn off "Load images in notes from the web" in Settings › Privacy. Images pasted from your computer are stored inside the note and never cause a request.
